Centre for Printing History and Culture
The CPHC is a new and exciting research hub, jointly created and steered by academics from University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University. Being rooted in the history and contemporary practises of Print, design and aesthetics are unavoidable factors of much of the research.
A mark was created that relates to mechanical print rollers but that also has a distinct look of a typographic ornament or glyph. The task of selecting typography was a tough one given the subject matter. The solution was to combine the use of Albertus, based on traditional, Roman letterforms with Gill Sans, a 20th Century classic.
A website was created to showcase the current research, members and resources of the CPHC research hub.
For any research centre seeking to establish itself, the creation of an attractive and high functioning website is a crucial first step. The branding and website design that Wild Ilk carried out for my colleagues and I at the Centre for Printing History and Culture is therefore highly valued. From the design through to the navigation, the website Tommy and Kipp provided is perfect for our needs.
As well as being beautifully presented for the everyday user, the website has become central to the identity and work of the Centre: a space in which we can connect and promote our research. I would highly recommend the services of Wild Ilk to anyone considering setting up a website, whether in academia or business.
